Thomas had a pretty ridiculous game on Saturday, and he got accolades to go along with it.

Saturday's game was ugly -- a win, but ugly -- but there was undoubtedly one bright spot for Georgia Tech. DB Jemea Thomas was all over the field for the entire game, getting involved in plays left and right and acting as a major leader in Georgia Tech's defense. On Monday, he was named ACC Co-Defensive Back of the Week alongside CB Kendall Fuller of Virginia Tech. It's the second straight week Georgia Tech's defense has had a defensive "Player of the Week" recipient after Quayshawn Nealy was named Co-Linebacker of the Week last week.

The media release from the ACC is below.

CO-DEFENSIVE BACK -Jemea Thomas, Georgia Tech, Sr-R., S, 5-10, 195, Queensland, Ga.
Thomas recorded career highs with 15 tackles and 12 solo tackles, leading the Georgia Tech defense in Saturday's 35-25 ACC win at Virginia. Thomas' 15 tackles were the most by a Yellow Jacket since 2009, and his 12 solo stops were the most by a Georgia Tech player since 2003. Thomas also matched a career high with two pass break-ups against the Cavaliers.

At least, I think we won...didn't we?

Terribly amazing game today, which probably makes about as much sense to you as it does to me.

The offense had 3 100-yard rushers (Laskey, Godhigh, and Sims).

It also had 5 turnovers.

The defense allowed 25 points and about 450 yards.

It also was on the field for nearly 35 minutes and gave up 0 points on those 5 turnovers.

Just a really weird game. We're so much better than that, and yet we played terribly for a lot of the game. A win is a win, though...right?

Game MVPs here are the three aforementioned backs, plus Jemea Thomas, who played absolutely out of his mind. 15 tackles for him, and he was generally all over the place. If I had to pick one offensive MVP, it's the classic pick -- Robbie Godhigh. Not only did Godhigh go for 111 yards on 5 carries, he also had a HUGE 38-yard reception late in the fourth to give him 149 total yards and setting up a big David Sims TD run that sealed the game.

I'm really conflicted on how I feel about this game. I think we learned a LOT about the defense (some positive, some negative), and it's good to see us face adversity but still come away with the win.

Your thoughts? Happy we won? Angry with how we played? Let's talk awhile.

Georgia Tech opened up the game with a score on only 3 plays, before Virginia missed a field goal, before the Tech offense fumbled on two straight drives and went four-and-out on another. A UVA field goal preceded a huge kick return by Lynn Griffin, which led to a Zach Laskey touchdown to stretch the lead to 14-3. Virginia had a lot of offensive success on the ensuing drive though, and scored to make the game 14-10. Justin Thomas took over at QB for his second drive and had the ball moving, but Robert Godhigh made a rare mistake and fumbled -- Georgia Tech's third turnover of the half. Yeah, it's been real ugly.

The Tech defense looked great in the first half given how long they spent on the field and how little the offense was able to get in rhythm. They'll need to lock it up on passing plays in the second half, though, where Virginia has had a lot of success. Jemea Thomas in particular has been all over the place making plays, and he's having a phenomenal game. Which is good, because an unnamed defensive back has been downright awful thus far.

Offensively, it's been pretty terrible. No rhythm, 4 turnovers, Vad's been all kinds of out of sync -- and yet somehow, we have 14 points and a lead. Hopefully it gets better in the second half.

Let's share our innermost thoughts and feelings on the public forum! Woo!

Game time, Tech fans! We return once more to the accursed Charlottesville, VA for a matchup with the Virginia Cavaliers, hoping that said curse won't rear its ugly head as per the usual. Paul Johnson's recorded one of our three all-time wins up there -- why can't he record another? Virginia's been weak this year so far, and our team's still trying to re-prove itself after 3 rough games. Let's take advantage. Let's take out some frustrations and whip some hind quarters.

The game is on at 12:30 on ESPN3. This is your GameThread. Let's get weird.

Looking for information on Georgia Tech's matchup with Virginia today? We've got your fix.

Georgia Tech looks to build momentum off of last week's huge win over Syracuse when they travel to Charlottesville, VA today to take on the Virginia Cavaliers. Georgia Tech has traditionally fared very poorly in Charlottesville, with the Cavaliers winning 9 of the last 10 at home in this series. However, Virginia has struggled this season and has lost 4 in a row, including last week against Duke, a 35-22 loss after they led 22-0. Can Georgia Tech get over the "Charlottesville" hump and bring home the victory?

Georgia Tech once again goes into the "Bermuda Triangle" of Charlottesville, VA on Saturday to take on the Virginia Cavaliers.

Riddle me this: What is gold and white and allergic to Scott Stadium?

If you answered the Georgia Tech football team, give yourself a high five. I am not a pessimist but I hope the Yellow Jackets find a way to win this Saturday in Charlottesville. Find a way, you ask? Winning only two times since 1990 on the Hoos' home turf does not help me sleep well at night, no matter how bad they are struggling this year. I do, however, believe the Jackets get a win this Saturday, and here's why.

Ted Roof's Yellow Jacket defense is coming off a 56-0 shutout over the Syracuse Orange. Tech's defense played hard and fast throughout the game. I know the team has struggled on the road this year with loses to Miami and BYU but the adjustments made in games during the season should give us reason to believe in his system and in the players. As of last week, Georgia Tech ranks 13th nationally in total defense. That is a huge improvement since Paul Johnson took over this team in 2008. However, this will be one of the biggest offensive lines Tech will face this season. Historically, Virginia usually has giants on their O-line and this year is no exception. The 325 lb Morgan Moses, will be hard the for Tech D to push around. Insert junior tail back Kevin Parks, who has 8 touchdowns on the year, and the Cavaliers have a solid rushing game. Against the pass, Tech's defense will need to get penetration and rattle Sophomore Quarterback David Watford early on.

Coach Mike London says " he's the man for the job" at Virginia. I'm just not sure if Hoo nation feels the same. He has done a solid job in recruiting but it just hasn't shown in the win column. The last time the Yellow Jackets came to Charlottesville, they were over confident and got beat. I don't see that happening this year.

What say you? Does Virginia play like they have nothing to lose or does Tech come out and beat a team they are suppose to?

Are we going to make it two straight weeks of success on all fronts?

Over/Under 16.5 Points Allowed by Georgia Tech's Defense

Virginia on the season is averaging 22.3 points scored per game, which drops to 19.5 points per game over their active 4-game losing streak. Virginia's offense is far from potent - 22.3 points per game is good for 100th nationally, a staggeringly low number in the age of high-octane offenses. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech is 17th nationally in scoring defense, allowing 19.3 points per game, and if this were happening in Atlanta they could be realistically aiming at a second straight shutout. In four wins, Georgia Tech has allowed a total of 34 points - 8.5 points per game. I have a really hard time seeing Virginia make it to 17 points in this game.

Under 16.5 Points Allowed by Georgia Tech's Defense

Over/Under 1.5 INTs by Georgia Tech's Defense

In a situation similar to last week, Virginia starting QB David Watford has, on average, thrown more than one interception per game this season. Through 7 games, he has 8 interceptions and only Pittsburgh and Maryland were unable to record an interception amongst UVA opponents. Unfortunately for Virginia, Georgia Tech's defense also has 8 interceptions, and is quick to capitalize in that department when given the opportunity (although I personally would like to see more capitalization). You know though, when a team like VMI is able to intercept you twice, I have a feeling like we'll be able to reel off at least one. The second is where it becomes difficult though....

Under 1.5 INTs by Georgia Tech's Defense

Over/Under 0.5 100-Yard Rushers

Amazingly, Robert Godhigh's 100 yards against UNC remains the Yellow Jackets' only 100-yard rushing performance of the year. They have a favorable matchup this weekend against a Jon Tenuta defense that blitzes a lot and isn't used to playing the style of defense required to slow down Georgia Tech's rushing attack. I see another big day on offense in the making, and yet I don't have reason to think someone will manage a full 100 yards by themselves...

Under 0.5 100-Yard Rushers

Over/Under 1.5 Plays of at Least 35 Yards for Georgia Tech's Offense

Last week, Georgia Tech's offense had three huge plays. First was Darren Waller with a 46-yard TD reception, then there was Dennis Andrews with a 37-yard reception, before Justin Thomas ripped off a 50-yard carry in the fourth. This week, they take on a defense that has trouble stopping the run. The offense appears to have hit its rhythm in the Syracuse game, and if they can do the same this weekend, we may see similar results. So...

Over 1.5 Plays of at Least 35 Yards for Georgia Tech's Offense

Over/Under 31:00 Time of Possession for Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech enters this game leading the conference and third in the nation with an average 35:28 time of possession in its 7 games. Interestingly, Virginia enters the game second in the conference and fifth in the nation with an average 33:52 time of possession. So what happens when two major winners at "keep-away" face each other? My guess here is that whichever offense is functioning better will have its way with the time of possession battle, and my other guess is that Georgia Tech's offense will be functioning better than will Virginia's.

Over 31:00 TOP for Georgia Tech

Over/Under 10.5-Point Margin of Victory for Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech has had a weird season so far, but a lot of that can be attributed to the rigor of their schedule and the huge disparity in performance in the ACC thus far. On the other hand, Virginia has two wins, with one coming over an FCS team, and the other over a team that beat Georgia Tech by nearly 3 scores. However, they've looked pretty bad in recent weeks and haven't provided much reason for confidence to their fans. I'm expecting Georgia Tech to build momentum off of last week's win and be on a roll for Homecoming next week.
