Barthiel is ranked as a three-star recruit by both Rivals (5.6) and the 247 Sports Composite (0.8477). He committed to Georgia Tech over other reported offers from Louisville, Mississippi State, West Virginia and several others.
Barthiel stands at 6-2, 205 pounds, so he will certainly have plenty of room to grow. Watching his film, I think there are a couple of things to like. He has pretty solid speed and shows to be adept at coverage. The biggest thing I saw that he needed to work on was tackling. In his highlights, a lot of his tackles were because he grabbed a player’s jersey and pulled them down, which will be far less successful at the next level.
Welcome to the Flats Gavin!
