Georgia Tech Recruiting: DE Michael Lockhart Commits

A big addition at a big position of need

Coach Collins has again bolstered Tech’s signing class with the addition of DE Michael Lockhart from Birmingham, AL. Lockhart announced his commitment through this post on Twitter:

Lockhart was a late bloomer on the recruiting trail, blowing up in January after completing his first season playing football. Lockhart spent most of his high school career playing basketball, but joined the football team this season. After a strong showing, Power-5 teams began to notice. Lockhart was quickly inundated with offers, and chose to officially visit 3 schools: UNC, Mississippi State, and Georgia Tech. These 3 schools became his finalists. On January 15, the recruiting services re-ranked him, and he rocketed up over 1000 spots in 247’s Composite Rankings. This is largely due to a boost in his Rivals rating. Rivals has Lockhart as a high 3-star, while 247’s internal ratings have him as a low 3-star. Regardless, he’s a high-upside prospect due to his combination of frame and athleticism. He’ll have to refine his craft, but he’ll be learning from someone who certainly knows something about being a pass rusher.

We’ll be doing in-depth breakdowns by position soon after signing day, so be sure to check back for those when they’re published!
