Malloy is a 3-star recruit per both Rivals (5.5) and 247 composite (0.8065). Malloy was heavily recruited by programs from G5 conferences, but only received three Power-5 offers(Tech, Northwestern, Indiana), though Rivals and 247 disagree on whether he held a Purdue offer. Some of this can be attributed to the injury he recovered from over the course of his senior season, which limited his opportunity to showcase his skills and made him a riskier prospect. He recovered nicely and put up a solid shortened season.
Film
Malloy has a low center of gravity and displays fantastic balance, shedding repeated tackles below the waste throughout his film. His natural stride is also conducive to clearing his feet through the trash, which he does exceptionally.
Malloy is a patient runner, picking his way through his blocks instead of running headlong in to the hole. While that’s a great quality for a feature back, he’ll need to adjust his style to the flexbone, which is predicated on getting on the defense quickly. He doesn’t have exceptional burst, but his top speed is good. He repeatedly outran entire defenses his senior year, racking up over 1000 yards in a limited number of games.
While Malloy has the body type that could play either A-back or B-back, he doesn’t currently run behind his pads enough to play B-back, and will need to adjust in order to be successful there. At A-back, his ability to shrug off lower body tackles will serve him well. and he has decent ball skills. Overall, Malloy will be a solid addition to the class as a guy who was underrated by many Power-5 schools.
Here is how Tech’s class currently stands:
