Georgia Tech Recruiting: OL Demetris Harris is Commitment #8

It appears that the second recruit named Demetris was the charm for Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson, who secured his eighth commitment for the 2017 class this afternoon in the form of Jacksonville offensive lineman Demetris Harris:

Harris, a three-star guard prospect out of Robert E. Lee High School, chose the Yellow Jackets over his two other finalists, Wake Forest and South Florida. His resume also features strong offers from Georgia Southern and Central Florida among others, but a combination of an exceedingly positive camp experience on The Flats and a strong academic desire propelled Tech to the forefront for the 6-foot-3, 283-pound guard.

Paul Johnson and the staff continue to show a commitment to improving the team's offensive line depth for the coming seasons, having accepted three linemen in the current class alone. We quickly learned last season that there's no such thing as too many quality offensive linemen, so getting a guy of Harris' caliber at a key time like this is certainly a win. As a player, Harris features the type of athleticism and agility that are key in Johnson's offensive scheme. We won't know much about his playing time or how the staff plans to utilize him until the end of this season at the earliest, but his film from junior year of high school is certainly encouraging:

With Harris' commitment, Tech's class now stands at eight with just over a month remaining before the beginning of the 2016 season. Here's how it's shaping up so far:
