He is not currently rated by Rivals or 247Sports, but does have offers from Virginia Commonwealth and NC State, while also receiving some interest from a potential "dream school" of his in Maryland. Matthews goes to high school at National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland.
Matthews will be following his commitment with an official visit to Georgia Tech this upcoming weekend.
Compared to last season, Tech got their first commitment over two months earlier, though the Yellow Jackets are also hoping for a larger class than last year's class of one (Sylvester Ogbonda).
Eight players on Tech's current roster are listed as forwards, including Marcus Georges-Hunt and grad transfer James White.
Welcome to the Flats Christian!
