Kelly Quinlan reported earlier today (full story behind paywall) that Ware County half-back Dedrick Mills committed to Georgia Tech over some pretty impressive reported offers, like Auburn, Florida State, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Mills is a three-star recruit from Waycross, GA, according to both Rivals (5.6) and 247 Sports (0.8463). The main recruiter from Tech's staff was offensive line coach Mike Sewak.
Standing at 5'10" and in the 210-220 range, his most logical fit will be at B-back where he will join quite a few other players. Currently slated to be the starter for this season, Marcus Allen will still have another season after this upcoming one.
Joining him will be a rising redshirt sophomore in CJ Leggett and three rising redshirt freshmen in Mikell Lands-Davis, Marcus Marshall and Quaide Weimerskirch.
It's crazy to think that after coming into this season with little-to-no depth at B-back this season, that we will enter next season with five scholarship guys who have all had a year in the system. Looking at that, we'll probably see two things: a redshirt year for Mills and some shuffling of positions. There will likely be one or two of these guys moving to A-back to make it more likely for everyone to get on the field.
Looking at his film, there were a few things I noticed. First of all, his body type and running style both make him a great fit at B-back. The other thing I noticed was the block he had on that punt return. He absolutely crushed that guy. Yeah, I think he'll fit in quite nicely here.
What do you think of the addition of Dedrick Mills?
