Recruiting: Calhoun OL Kenny Cooper Flips from Western Kentucky, is Commitment #9!

We found out on Tuesday night that, after losing a pair of committed offensive linemen a little over a week ago, Georgia Tech was adding one back to its 2016 recruiting class. Calhoun OL Kenny Cooper, previously committed to Western Kentucky, flipped to Georgia Tech and brings the 2016 recruiting class to 9 players.

In non-basketball news, per Sonoraville football coach Jim Kremer, senior DL Kenny Cooper switched his commitment from WKU to Ga Tech today.

From Sonoraville HS in Calhoun, Cooper is the first from his high school to sign on with an FBS-level program in over a decade. He seems to be a lesser-known player, which makes sense given his high school's lack of history with producing FBS-level players. Georgia Tech is only his second reported offer, although he also had reported interest from Auburn (per Rivals). At 6'3", 285 pounds, Calhoun played both ways in high school, primarily as an offensive tackle and defensive end. A quick look at Cooper's film shows good mobility and athleticism for his size, as well as some serious pancake blocks on linebackers. With his experience on that side of the ball, there's always a chance that Cooper gets a chance to play some defense at Georgia Tech, where he shows a nice block-shedding ability as well as a real knack for ballcarrier pursuit.

Cooper is a 2-star recruit per Rivals (5.3) and a 3-star recruit per 247Sports (80). He has no 247Sports Composite rating.
