Georgia Tech Football Recruiting: Antonio Simmons is Commitment #19

The Yellow Jackets picked up some help on the defensive front on the heels of last night's win over Pittsburgh!

Kevin Liles-USA TODAY Sports

Antonio Simmons became Georgia Tech's 19th commitment late last night after being in attendance for the Yellow Jackets' win over Pittsburgh.

He's a 6'4", 210 lb Weakside Defensive End from University Christian School in Jacksonville, FL, and he also plays tight end when on offense. (I assume the plan will be for him to add 30-40 pounds before the start of next season, and that he'll be playing DE for us.) He commits to Georgia Tech over offers from Central Florida, South Florida, and Air Force, including interest from Florida and Florida State. He's unrated by Rivals and 247, and generally would not appear to have been a high-profile recruit. That said, as we've learned in the past, that means nothing as far as how productive he'll be for our team. (Exhibit A: Paul Davis, who was offered within a week before signing day and only after committed players had flipped, committed over only one other FBS-level offer, and now is pushing Quayshawn Nealy to be our starting weakside linebacker about 10 months later.)

Really looking forward to seeing what this guy can do for our defensive front, and our program as a whole. Congratulations to Antonio! Welcome to the Flats!
