With the 2019 season over and done with, it’s time to start looking at the upcoming 2020 season! This morning the entire football schedule was released:
Thursday 9/3 - Clemson
Saturday 9/12 - Gardner-Webb
Saturday 9/19 - UCF
Saturday 9/26 - @ North Carolina
Saturday 10/3 - @ Virginia Tech
BYE
Saturday 10/17 - Virginia
Saturday 10/24 - @ Pitt
Saturday 10/31 - @ Syracuse
Saturday 11/7 - Duke
Saturday 11/14 - Notre Dame (Mayhem at MBS)
Saturday 11/21 - Miami
Saturday 11/28 - @ Georgia
I’ve got one word: Yikes. Another Thursday night opener with Clemson is not what I was hoping for this season. There was some talk that Tech would play Syracuse in Week 1, which I very much would have preferred since there’s a decent chance we could be running a true freshman QB out for his first start.
Moving on, that road trip to Chapel Hill and then Blacksburg scares me a lot. UNC should be the favorites in the Coastal next year with Sam Howell coming back, and the Hokies showed a lot of promise towards the end of the year. With them, I’m curious how the defense is following Bud Foster’s retirement.
Syracuse on Halloween should be fun, but the entire November schedule is ridiculous. I don’t think Duke will do too much next season, but the Blue Devils always show up to play against Georgia Tech. And then Tech will follow that up with Notre Dame, Miami (who should probably be better) and Georgia to close the season. I think those last four weeks are easily the toughest stretch of the season.
Looking at this schedule right now, I see anywhere from three to five games Tech should win, but as we all learned this year, just because a team should win a game doesn’t mean a team will win that game.
What are your initial thoughts about the schedule?
