Game Preview and Score Prediction:

Today, Geoff Collins and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets face their second-to-last out-of-conference foe and Collins’ old team, the Temple Owls. Going into the game, Tech is looking to rid themselves of an embarrassing loss to The Citadel, while the Owls are also looking to rid themselves of a loss to a not-that-great Buffalo team.

Will Georgia Tech have a quarterback this week?

In every single game this season, we have seen Dave Patenaude a few different quarterbacks in Lucas Johnson, Tobias Oliver, and James Graham. Graham missed last week due to an injury, and the AJC is reporting that Lucas Johnson won’t play this week due to an injury.

A similar thing happened during Collins’ last year at Temple. During the first four games of the season, quarterbacks Frank Nutile and Anthony Russo split time before Nutile suffered an injury that allowed Russo to win the job. Funny enough, Russo winning the job helped turn the season around for the Owls last season. They started off pretty rough, including a loss to FCS Villanova. They were able to win eight of their final 11 games.

Tobias Oliver, kick returner?

Against The Citadel, we saw some of Tech’s best kick returns of the season, courtesy of Tobias Oliver. The best was on the Yellow Jackets’ final opportunity, which saw Oliver run for 52 yards. Will they keep him there? With Johnson’s injury, I highly doubt it, but it’d be fun to see for sure!

Can Georgia Tech get on the board early?

So in preparing to write this article, I noticed something. Georgia Tech has yet to score in the first quarter of a game this season. That’s...uhhhh....that’s not good. Temple’s defense certainly isn’t Clemson’s, but they aren’t any slouch either. To ease all of our minds, Tech will need to get on the board early.

Score Prediction

I really don’t know what to make of this game. Part of me feels like Temple will roll to a double-digit victory at home, and the other part of me feels like Tech finally takes a step forward and pulls out a close victory. Not having Johnson available for the game will force the Yellow Jackets to rely more on Tobias Oliver, which I think could turn into a blessing in disguise. The Owls struggled to stop the run against Buffalo, and thankfully, that’s one thing Tech isn’t half bad at it. I think that could help Tech pull out a close victory, 27-21.
