After one week, have any real changes been made?

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

As we head into Georgia Tech's Week 2 game against the Tulane Green Wave, let's review the depth chart and any changes that have happened since last week.

Offense

Position First String Second String
QB Justin Thomas (R-Jr) Matthew Jordan (R-Fr)
BB Patrick Skov (R-Sr) Marcus Marshall (Fr)
Marcus Allen (R-Jr)
AB Broderick Snoddy (R-Sr) Qua Searcy (R-Fr)
AB Isaiah Willis (R-Jr) TaQuon Marshall (Fr)
Clinton Lynch (R-Fr)
WR Ricky Jeune (R-So) Brad Stewart (Fr)
WR Micheal Summers (R-Jr) Antonio Messick (R-So)
Jalen Johnson (R-Fr)
LT Bryan Chamberlain (R-Sr) Will Bryan (Fr)
LG Trey Braun (R-Sr) Jake Whitley (R-Fr)
C Freddie Burden (R-Jr) Andrew Marshall (So)
RG Shamire Devine (R-So) Trey Klock (R-Fr)
RT Errin Joe (R-Sr) Eason Fromayan (R-So)

There were two noticeable differences here from the first game against Alcorn State. First, as has been reported, Tim Byerly was injured earlier this week in practice and will be replaced as backup quarterback for now by Matthew Jordan, who played last week at A-Back. According to Coach Johnson, Jordan began playing A-Back in spring practice and was permanently moved there in fall camp. The talented runner will now move back to his original spot at quarterback, and will be the first guy off the bench in the case of an injury or blowout.

The other difference here is the replacement of true freshman Harland Howell on the wide receiver depth chart with Jalen Johnson, who recently moved from his spot at safety. If Johnson can be a serviceable fifth receiver in the rotation, chances are good that both Howell and heralded true freshman Christian Philpott will both redshirt this season.

Defense

Position First String Second String
WDE KeShun Freeman (So) Antonio Simmons (So)
Anree Saint-Amour (Fr)
DT Adam Gotsis (Sr) Francis Kallon (R-Jr)
DT Jabari Hunt (R-Sr) Brentavious Glanton (Fr)
SDE Patrick Gamble (R-Jr)
Rod Rook-Chungong (R-Jr)
Tyler Stargel (R-Jr)
SLB Chase Alford (Jr) David Curry (Fr)
MLB Tyler Marcordes (R-Sr) Beau Hankins (R-Jr)
Victor Alexander (Fr)
WLB Paul Davis (Jr) Domonique Noble (R-Sr)
Brant Mitchell (Fr)
Nickel Lynn Griffin (R-Jr)
Lawrence Austin (So)
David Curry (Fr)
CB Chris Milton (R-Sr) Lance Austin (So)
SS Jamal Golden (R-Sr) Shaun Kagawa (So)
Corey Griffin (R-So)
FS Demond Smith (R-So) A.J. Gray (Fr)
CB D.J. White (Sr) Step Durham (So)
Meiko Dotson (Fr)

This is literally the exact same depth chart as last week's against Alcorn State. The funny part about that? Chase Alford didn't end up starting, and recorded his first tackle when Georgia Tech led 55-6. (In other words, I don't think he was on the field for much, or any, of the first half.) Also, David Curry didn't participate, and I'm not even sure he dressed for the game.

...smokescreens in place on the Flats, perhaps?

Special Teams

Position First String Second String
K Harrison Butker (Jr) Shaun Davis (Fr)
P Ryan Rodwell (R-Jr) Shaun Davis (Fr)
LS Sean Tobin (R-Sr) Casey Wilson (R-Fr)
H Ryan Rodwell (R-Jr) Tim Byerly (R-Sr)
KR/PR Jamal Golden (R-Sr) Qua Searcy (R-Fr)
Broderick Snoddy (R-Sr)

It may be a typo, but the only weird thing here is Tim Byerly still being listed as the #2 holder. I only hold off from saying it's definitely a typo because Byerly's injury was to his knee, which theoretically wouldn't keep him from holding the ball for a field goal...right?

Yeah, you're right. Probably a typo.
