Football: Injury Report & Depth Chart at Virginia Cavaliers

This week's depth chart looks awfully...familiar.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Injury Report

Position Player Status
CB D.J. White Probable (Ankle)
BB Patrick Skov (R-Sr) Probable (Shoulder)
AB Broderick Snoddy (R-Sr) Probable (Hand)
OL Shamire Devine Out (Undisclosed)
DB A.J. Gray Out (Undisclosed)
AB Qua Searcy (R-Fr) Out (Ankle)
QB Tim Byerly (R-Sr) Out for Season (Knee)
BB C.J. Leggett (R-Fr) Out for Season (Knee)
AB Nathan Cottrell (Fr) Out for Season (Knee)
AB KirVonte Benson (Fr) Out for Season (Knee)
OT Chris Griffin (R-So) Out for Season (Knee)
LB Beau Hankins (R-Jr) Career Ended (Concussions)

Once again, Georgia Tech has lost a starter on offense, at least for this week's game. Starting RG Shamire Devine will miss the game for undisclosed injury-related reasons. We'll get to his replacement in a moment. Also missing will be true freshman DB A.J. Gray, with an injury that is also undisclosed but isn't thought to be particularly serious.

In lighter news, the Yellow Jackets get a pair of running backs returning from injury, in Patrick Skov (who was a late scratch last week) and Broderick Snoddy (who has missed several weeks with a broken hand). Their experience in the rotation will no doubt be very helpful. Additionally, Georgia Tech gets its top CB back in D.J. White, who missed last week's game after suffering an ankle injury in practice.

Offense

Position First String Second String
QB Justin Thomas (R-Jr) Matthew Jordan (R-Fr)
Chase Martenson (R-Fr)
BB Patrick Skov (R-Sr)
Marcus Marshall (Fr)
Marcus Allen (R-Jr)
AB Clinton Lynch (R-Fr) Isaiah Willis (R-Jr)
Lynn Griffin (R-Jr)
AB Mikell Lands-Davis (Fr) TaQuon Marshall (Fr)
Austin McClellan (R-Jr)
WR Ricky Jeune (R-So) Brandon Oliver (R-Sr)
Harland Howell (Fr)
WR Micheal Summers (R-Jr) Brad Stewart (Fr)
Antonio Messick (R-So)
LT Bryan Chamberlain (R-Sr) Will Bryan (Fr)
LG Trey Braun (R-Sr) Gary Brown (R-Fr)
C Freddie Burden (R-Jr) Andrew Marshall (So)
RG Shamire Devine (R-So) Trey Klock (R-Fr)
RT Will Bryan (Fr)
Errin Joe (R-Sr)
Eason Fromayan (R-So)

If it weren't immediately obvious by the inclusion of Devine and the omission of Snoddy, this depth chart hasn't changed at all since last week, even given the flux of personnel that we'll see. As mentioned, Shamire Devine will miss the game. As for who will replace him, there are a few potential candidates. The two redshirt freshman backup guards are both good candidates, that being Gary Brown and Trey Klock. Another interesting option would be Errin Joe, which would enable true freshman tackle Will Bryan to remain in the lineup and put the Jackets' "best five players" on the field. (For the record, with Joe's struggles at tackle this year, a move to guard might not be the worst thing at this point.) The final (but highly unlikely) possibility is Andrew Marshall, but it's hard to imagine that they would go that route.

Expect for Coach Johnson to stick with his same starting group of A-Backs as well, even with the return of Snoddy. Lynch and Lands-Davis have been clicking recently with Justin Thomas, and I doubt that the coaches will disrupt that. I'd be shocked if Snoddy didn't play, but his touches won't be quite that of a starter.

Defense

Position First String Second String
WDE KeShun Freeman (So) Anree Saint-Amour (Fr)
DT Adam Gotsis (Sr) Francis Kallon (R-Jr)
Kyle Cerge-Henderson (Fr)
NT Patrick Gamble (R-Jr) Jabari Hunt (R-Sr)
Francis Kallon (R-Jr)
SDE Rod Rook-Chungong (R-Jr) Antonio Simmons (So)
Tyler Stargel (R-Jr)
LB Tyler Marcordes (R-Sr) Brant Mitchell (Fr)
Victor Alexander (Fr)
LB P.J. Davis (Jr) Terrell Lewis (So)
LB (4-3) Brant Mitchell (Fr) Chase Alford (Jr)
Nickel Lawrence Austin (So) Demond Smith (R-Sr)
CB Chris Milton (R-Sr) Lance Austin (So)
SS Jamal Golden (R-Sr) Corey Griffin (R-So)
Shaun Kagawa (So)
FS Demond Smith (R-Sr) A.J. Gray (Fr)
CB D.J. White (Sr) Step Durham (So)

As above, this depth chart is identical to the one last week, with no exceptions. A.J. Gray will miss the game but is still listed here as the primary backup at FS. If Smith needs a breather or is injured during the game, likely backups would be Lawrence Austin and Shaun Kagawa. Here's to hoping that's not necessary.

Special Teams

Position First String Second String
K Harrison Butker (Jr) Shaun Davis (Fr)
P Ryan Rodwell (R-Jr) Shaun Davis (Fr)
LS Casey Wilson (R-Fr) Sean Tobin (R-Sr)
H Ryan Rodwell (R-Jr) ----
KR/PR Jamal Golden (R-Sr) Brad Stewart (Fr)

Keeping with this week's theme, this depth chart is also identical to last week's. Casey Wilson appears to be the go-to snapper now, hopefully ending the woes related to that job that Georgia Tech suffered through earlier this year.
