POSTGAME THREAD: Georgia Tech Defeats Mississippi State 49-34, Says Hello to America

The Yellow Jackets took it to the Bulldogs in an extremely strong performance on the national stage.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

It was the middle of August.

Coach Johnson's future was in doubt.

The Jackets were trying to replace about 2 of 3 starters, including their quarterback.

Many thought they wouldn't make a Bowl game.

They just won the Orange Bowl.

They did so by beating a team that spent a month of the year ranked the #1 team in the country.

They ran the ball down the throats of a big, bad, vaunted defense that gave most teams big problems this year.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

They don't care.

They just don't. Give them whatever obstacle you want. Give them any reason to quit. Give them EVERY reason not to believe in themselves.

They could give a damn.

A team whose expectations were slim to none just made a name for themselves on the national stage.

They beat every rival they were expected to lose to, and then topped that off by winning their first Orange Bowl since their 1952 National Championship against a team that nobody thought they'd beat.

Happy New Year, Tech fans. Let's have this momentum carry over.
