Georgia Tech Football: Yellow Jackets Ranked #24 in AP Poll, #23 in Coaches' Poll

For the second time this season, Georgia Tech is nationally ranked in the AP and Coaches' Polls!

Grant Halverson

Coming off a major road win against NC State, 8-2 (5-2) Georgia Tech was ranked in this week's AP and Coaches' Polls for the first time since October 5th, when they were 5-0 and coming off of a win over Miami. They're #24 in the AP Poll and #23 in the Coaches' Poll. They the fourth-ranked ACC team in each, behind #2 Florida State, #18/#17 Clemson, and #19 Duke.

Prior to this season, the last time Georgia Tech was ranked was 2011, when they were ranked on three separate occasions. After initially being ranked on the heels of a 3-0 start, Georgia Tech climbed the polls to #12 before losing consecutive road games to Virginia and Miami. A huge Homecoming win over #6 Clemson followed, thrusting the Jackets back in as #20. That would be short-lived though, as they fell to #10 Virginia Tech on a Thursday night. After a win at Duke, the Jackets were ranked #25 for their home contest against rivals uga, where they once again lost and would not see the polls again until early October 2014. The Jackets have not finished a season ranked since 2009, when they finished #13 nationally after an Orange Bowl loss to #11 Iowa.

In the Paul Johnson era, Georgia Tech is 15-12 when ranked.
