Game Previews: Yellow Jackets @ Duke Blue Devils, September 14

Our Countdown to Kickoff continues today as we look at a division foe that we haven't lost to in quite a while.

Danny Karnik/Georgia Tech Athletics

Countdown to Kickoff: 17 Days...

Know Your Opponent:

Duke University Blue Devils -- Durham, NC

2012 Record:

6-7 (3-5 ACC), Loss to Cincinnati in Belk Bowl 48-34

Points Scored/Allowed Per Game:

31.5/36.0

Passing/Rushing Offensive Yards & Ratio:

283.9/125.2 -- 2.267

Passing/Rushing Defensive Yards & Ratio:

267.2/201.9 -- 1.323

Outlook:

In the past, we've taken Duke for granted. This season will probably not change that. One of these years, Tech is going to lose to Duke and Tech fans everywhere will want to bury themselves in a pillow and cry their sorrows away. However, Duke is a program whose rep will be increasing over the next few years as David Cutcliffe continues to develop it, and one that should eventually be considered more of a "middle-of-the-road" team in the division at the very least. Will that year be this year? Probably not. Duke will be replacing its starting QB and implementing a new offense, and I have a hard time seeing September 14 being the time that it really blossoms.

Duke Wins If:

The lightbulb comes on for both the offense and defense & Tech doesn't have their heads in it.

Tech Wins If:

They come out focused and take care of business.

Prediction:

Georgia Tech 38, Duke 16

Does Duke scare you? Are we taking them too lightly? Is this a trap game?
