Meet The Freshmen: BB Travis Custis

Today we kick off our "Meet the Freshmen" series with the highly-touted B-Back from Lovejoy.

Considered one of the best running backs in the state as a senior, Travis Custis was one of Tech's prized recruits in this class. Custis had offers from schools such as Clemson, Miami, Michigan State, and Vanderbilt, and there was some concern late in the recruiting term that he might flip to another school. However, Tech's first commitment from the class (he committed a full 10 months before NSD) stuck it out and will be on the Flats this fall.

Hailing from Lovejoy High School (also home to former Tech RB Tashard Choice), Custis stands 6 feet tall and weighs a hair over 200 pounds. By nature, he's a very balanced running back who can beat you with his speed, but is also very difficult to bring down. He does a fantastic job of keeping his feet under him and really making defensive players work to bring him down. This will bode very well for him as a B-Back, although it will be interesting to see how it changes when running B-Back dives into the center of the line.

One area that Custis will likely need significant work on is his blocking ability. That's not to say so much that he's a poor blocker, but more that it will become a large part of his duties at B-Back and I can't say whether or not he did much of it in high school. One area that he showed promise in and could allow him to make a huge impact is as a passing threat -- our B-Backs aren't really relied on in the passing game, but that could change with the introduction of the pistol sets and more spread-esque looks.

Do you see Custis making it onto the field as a true freshman, or will he have to redshirt? Is Custis our next high-impact B-Back?
