It was announced Sunday night that Georgia Tech will be heading to Nashville to play in the Music City Bowl on December 30, where they will meet the Ole Miss Rebels. The trip represents the Jackets' 17th consecutive bowl appearance, tying uga for 3rd-longest active streak (behind Virginia Tech's 21 and Florida State's 32) and tying BYU for 7th-longest all-time.

The Jackets are looking to finish strong and win a second straight bowl game after last year's 21-7 Sun Bowl victory over preseason-#1 Southern Cal. In Paul Johnson's five bowl appearances as Georgia Tech's head coach, the Jackets are now 1-4.

Tech will face Ole Miss, an interestingly similar team in a few ways. Ole Miss is in a very similar "SEC Purgatory" to Georgia Tech's "ACC Purgatory". The Rebels went 7-5 this year with a 3-5 conference mark. They recorded wins over Vanderbilt, Texas, and LSU, with losses to Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, Mizzou, and in-state rival Mississippi State.

The Rebels are in a strangely similar state to Georgia Tech, a middle-of-the-road team in their conference this year and coming off of a really tough overtime loss to their in-state rival. They're led by second-year Head Coach Hugh Freeze, who is at a total record of 14-11 with Ole Miss and led them to a 38-17 win over Pittsburgh in last year's BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham.

At first glance, this looks like a very good matchup. Neither team has an obvious advantage over the other, and it will be interesting to see how well they play against each other.

What are your thoughts on this matchup? Does it work out favorably for Georgia Tech? Are you excited at the opportunity to vacation in Nashville?
