Over the weekend, it began to sound as though the top player in Georgia Tech's 2016 basketball recruiting class might be aiming to head elsewhere this fall:
Romello White just let me know he's planning to ask for his release from Georgia Tech. Still going to consider the Yellow Jackets.
— Dan McDonald (@DMcDonaldRivals) April 23, 2016
If this is true, it's a considerable blow to the Jackets' 2016 recruiting class that was originally put together by Brian Gregory. White was the gem of the class, as a top-5 prospect in the state and a top-75 prospect in the country. The gifted power forward would have been very useful in replacing the graduated Nick Jacobs, Charles Mitchell, and James White from the 2015-2016 team.
Including White, Georgia Tech's 2016 recruiting class looked like this:
Pos | Player | Ht | Wt | Hometown | 247Sports National Rk |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
PF | Romello White | 6-8 | 215 | Marietta, GA | 74 |
SG | Josh Okogie | 6-5 | 185 | Snellville, GA | 186 |
SF | Christian Matthews | 6-6 | 190 | Fort Washington, MD | 240 |
In the time since his hiring was announced, Coach Pastner has spent an extensive amount of time recruiting, primarily for 2017 but also in spots for 2016. A player could be added to the above list at a later date, but that appears more unlikely with each passing day.
We'll let you know if any sort of official announcement is made regarding White's status as a signee with Georgia Tech.
