Basketball: Georgia Tech selected as #4 Seed in NIT, will play in first postseason tournament since 2010

It's their first time playing in the NIT since 2003.

Even after a strong finish to the season, culminating with an emotional overtime comeback win over Clemson in the ACC Tournament, the Yellow Jackets (19-14, 8-10) were not selected for the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday.

However, they've been selected for the NIT as a #4 seed! It is the first time since the 2010 NCAA Tournament that Georgia Tech has been selected to a postseason tournament, and the first time that they'll play in the NIT since 2003 (which saw them defeat Ohio State and Iowa before losing to Texas Tech in the quarterfinals).

As a #4 seed, the Jackets will host an opening-round game at McCamish Pavilion on Wednesday night, when they'll meet the Houston Cougars at 9pm. With a first-round win, the Yellow Jackets would finish with 20+ wins for the first time under Brian Gregory, and for the first time since that 2009-2010 season. In addition, a win would presumably send them to Columbia for a road matchup against their region's #1-seed, South Carolina.

Here's the full 2016 NIT bracket:

Region 1 Region 2 Region 3 Region 4
1 Valparaiso 1 St. Bonaventure 1 Monmouth 1 South Carolina
