Alontae Taylor, a class of 2018 quarterback, listed Georgia Tech as his number three school of choice, despite being a hard Vandy commit. Definitely something to keep am eye on.
No, that headline is not an exaggeration or a lie. Iman Shumpert (formerly of Georgia Tech's basketball team) legitimately delivered his fiancee's baby in a hotel room bath tub this morning. What a legend.
Congratulations to Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor!
Another GT misconception is exposed as the rest of the world discovers the longstanding fact that Atlanta is a TOP FIVE city in America for dating. Atlanta comes in at #4 and is far and away the best in the state (Augusta makes the list with a triple digit ranking number.) So there you have it, recruits. Don't let anyone tell you finding a date at Tech will be difficult. You're in Atlanta, where the dating scene is reportedly as good as it gets!
Today is national signing day for JUCO players who are enrolling early. Desmond Branch announced his commitment to Tech last week. The defensive end will have three years of eligibility left.
We can stop repeating the rote mantra that Tech grads don't stay in Atlanta, because now it's just not true. Rather, it would not make sense anymore. Not only is Atlanta ranked as a top ten college locale, a top ten party city, the #2 best city for Millennials to begin their careers,...but now Atlanta has been ranked the best city both for lawyers and ENGINEERS! No city in America boasts a more favorable financial environment for engineers in terms of high demand in the job market, high salaries, and cheap housing market. So repeat after me: The best place for new Yellow Jackets is the nest we came from!
Sad news today, as backup QB Tim Byerly's petition to the NCAA for a sixth-year waiver has been denied, ending his career on the Flats (and presumably his football career). That said, he had Georgia Tech release a letter that he wrote, in which he thanked many of the most influential members from his time at the Institute. I'd highly recommend reading it.
Thank you, Tim!
Tim's response and letter is wonderful.
Prospective Football Players, listen up! A recent ranking has declared Atlanta the BEST COLLEGE TOWN IN GEORGIA! In fact, Atlanta is the #7 college town in the entire country! ATL is ahead of Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Knoxville, Nashville, Chapel Hill, Blacksburg, and just about every other college locale around the country...yep, even Athens. Atlanta ranked first in Night Life Options while being near the top in educational quality and gender balance. Let it be known that Georgia Tech is in a fun town, and those Yellow Jackets know how to party!
TaDarryl Marshall committed to Tennessee back in late April, and remained committed through the season. Apparently over the weekend, he was informed that his scholarship offer was being pulled (for unspecified reasons). This is the type of situation where Georgia Tech has typically thrived -- top targets commit to other schools, those schools change the deal later in the game, and the Yellow Jackets are there to capitalize. Might this be another opportunity?
After the Yellow Jackets lost in Miami and georgia needed overtime to defeat Georgia Southern, there's no wonder that this game is being relegated to a noon kickoff on "the deuce".
