Georgia Tech has announced its annual signing day event, which will commence at 8:30 AM in the Edge Building adjacent to Bobby Dodd Stadium. The event will air on ESPN3 and be available to watch later. Doors open at 8AM.
The event will be hosted by Brandon Gaudin and will feature Yellow Jacket Coaches talking about the players they recruited as the Letters of Intent roll through the fax machine.
It's a fun event to attend, and there is generally some food provided(at least there was last year).
I'll be there, so come visit and celebrate the 2016 signing class! (If you plan to be there as well, let me know in the comments.)
If this does end up being true, it's a big deal. Candeto now has head coaching experience after three seasons as head coach at Capital University in Ohio. He formerly was a quarterback at Navy under Paul Johnson, and then served the 2010 season as a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech under his former head coach. The rumor is that he'll become the Assistant Director of Operations at Georgia Tech, but having him on staff in any capacity will be value added for the Jackets.
With Demaryius Thomas and Vance Walker playing for the Broncos, and Louis Young and Stephen Hill playing with the Panthers, the Yellow Jackets will be well-represented on the big stage in two weeks!
The Yellow Jackets found out on Thursday that the Mill Creek High School native was backing off of his commitment to Army, instead electing to take a spot on the Flats as a preferred walk-on (PWO). Vernon was named an all-county defensive lineman as a senior, as he led Gwinnett County with 17 sacks.
As a Texas resident myself, I was unaware that it was in the upper-teens and low-twenties today in Atlanta, with double-digit winds. Even still, Georgia Tech was out in Bobby Dodd Stadium this morning.
If there ever comes a point in this offseason where you have questions about this team's motivation moving towards the 2016 season, this is a tweet you should probably come back to.
It's really not a long read, and I'd highly recommend that you read it. This is an incredibly powerful article written by Bay-Bay himself, discussing his upbringing and how his mother's release affects him even now, as a successful professional athlete and as a 28-year-old man.
It's a bit of a departure from recent years, when the Yellow Jackets have promoted their spring game as "Friday Night on the Flats". That said, a move to mid-day might help to circumvent some weather-related issues from recent years.
You might remember Hate Week 2014, when Georgia Tech computer engineering student Ryan Pickren made headlines for updating the official calendar on the university of georgia's website to say "Get Ass Kicked by GT" at the same time as the annual rivalry game. The prank went viral, and eventually ended up with Pickren charged with felony computer trespassing.
Over a year later, he's had the charges dropped, and his story was posted to reddit. Check it out!
GT's most recent Hall of Famer has been chosen lead the Atlanta expansion of the "QB Country" elite quarterback training program. QBs in the Atlanta area from middle school through the NFL can now train with GT's all time leader in offense. Go Jackets!
Brown just finished up his first season of action after redshirting and winning Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year in 2014. His presence will be sorely missed on an offensive line looking to replace three graduated seniors and somewhat lacking in depth for the spring. For the record, it would appear that Brown has elected to stop playing football altogether.
Best wishes to Brown in all of his future endeavors!
