Update 8:57 p.m.
Georgia Tech has officially announced that Thacker and Tillman are being reassigned to off-field roles. My understanding is that this means that Georgia Tech will be able to retain both for a time while they search for the two new coaches. It remains to be seen what the future holds for them beyond the bowl game.
Update: 6:47 p.m.
Rivals’ Kelly Quinlan is reporting that changes are expected on the defensive coaching staff, but that Brent Key’s timeline was set for after the bowl game. Additionally, he confirms that Thacker and Tillman have been out recruiting this week.
Change has been expected at #GaTech on the defensive side of the ball, but after the bowl game was head coach Brent Key's timeline. @FootballScoop reported that Andrew Thacker and Travares Tillman are out. Both were out recruiting so that's odd.https://t.co/6lSuwKoJsw pic.twitter.com/3kD86oC19P— Kelly Quinlan (@Kelly_Quinlan) December 8, 2023
John Brice of FootballScoop is reporting that Georgia Tech has parted ways with former defensive coordinator and current safeties coach Andrew Thacker and defensive backs coach Travares Tillman.
I haven’t seen any other Georgia Tech reporters confirming the report, although Kelly Quinlan took a weird pot shot at John for a typo.
Thacker (who was demoted from defensive coordinator earlier this season) and Tillman are both holdovers from the previous coaching regime, so I think it makes sense that their leash would be a little shorter than others on the coaching staff.
We are in full swing with the coaching carousel, and this would leave Tech with two positions open.
