Technical Tidbits 11/18: Tech vs. Syracuse Tonight

At 5-5, both teams looking to become bowl-eligible with a win.

Tonight, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team will be hosting the Syracuse Orange and there’s a lot on the line for both teams. At 5-5, both teams are looking for at least one more win to become bowl-eligible. Syracuse still has Wake Forest on its schedule to close out the season, so that is a winnable game. But for the Yellow Jackets who will host their instate rival, u[sic]GA, if they don’t win today, it will be an uphill battle to make it to the postseason. Needless to say, tonight’s game is pretty much a must-win for the Yellow Jackets if they are to make their first bowl game since 2018. With that said, we can start off today’s Tidbits with this SI article.

This article brings up the whole bowl qualifying angle that we talked about earlier, so there’s that to discuss. But we already know the implications for both teams (and for the head coach of Syracuse apparently). The more intriguing item from the article to me is the discussion about Syracuse’s offense.

Without its quarterback or a reliable backup, the Orange were forced to turn to a run-heavy offense last week and they had quite a bit of success with it. The article points out how Tech’s run defense is one of the worst in college football, so understandably, that’s something to worry about if you’re a Tech fan. As the article discusses, it will be great if Haynes King has a good bounce-back game and Tech’s offense can produce points, but if Syracuse is as successful running the ball as they were last week, this would likely end up as a very close game.

My expectation is it just might turn out to be a nail-biter. Tech is a favorite going into this game, and they are predicted to come out on top according to the sentiments of this other SI article. Hopefully, that is the case.

In some Tech volleyball news, the team was on the road to take on Miami last night. Unfortunately, they came up short losing 3-0. They’ll get a chance to bounce back on Sunday when they’ll be back in the ATL for their last home game of the regular season. They will be hosting Syracuse. Then on Wednesday, they’ll close out the regular season on the road against Louisville. At 21-5 overall and 12-4 in the ACC, the Yellow Jackets are the 9th-ranked team in the country. Hopefully, they can wrap up their regular season with a couple more wins.

Finally, to wrap up today’s tidbits, I included this article which has details regarding the game. Kickoff is set for 8:00 PM and the game will be televised on the ACC Network. #GoJackets
