ATLANTA, GEORGIA — It’s finals season and I still have one left, so I’ll keep this short. Let’s dive in.

Softball had their best weekend since opening weekend at home against Virginia for a four game set. The Hoos, conference basement dwellers, are not terribly awesome at softball, but Tech executed about as flawlessly as they have been all year, and turned solid pitching, good defense, and consistent hitting into four wins. They looked, on the whole, a lot more like the team we thought they’d be after the first week of the season.
Yours truly was able to make it to the Mew for the first two games on Friday, but, even watching from home on Saturday and Sunday, the same things held true. As things stand now, Tech is in line to qualify for the ACC tournament, which was something that wasn’t necessarily true before this weekend. Of course, there’s plenty of things that could break right for Tech and put them in place to play deeper into the postseason than just one more game, but one more game is more than zero, so, at the very least Tech isn’t quite done with their season just yet.
Track and Field
Alright, so, off the top, no rankings this week, because the track and field rankings page was being ridiculously buggy and refused to work. Alright. So, otherwise, the Track team was up in Athens for their final meet of the regular season.
In the leading news of the weekend, Bria Matthews imploded the school long jump record on Saturday, which is her latest of many great accomplishments in the event, and one that puts her inside the top ten in the nation in the event. Additionally, there were a couple other notable finishes, like Alex Thomas winning the 800m, the men putting 6 athletes in the top 10 of the 1500m, Matthews putting herself into the top 20 nationally in the high jump, too, and solid showing in both 4x400 relays.
In the Club House
Men’s lacrosse went on up the road to Athens this weekend and absolutely throttled the Athenians, 20-7, good for their seventh win against them in as many tries. The team moved to a perfect 7-0 on the season, and it’s worth noting that the game was 15-1 at one point before Tech cruised to an easy win. They’ll be in action next in Round Rock for the MCLA Invitational.

Quick Hitters
It’s really a wait-and-see game for all the teams, be it on ACC play or NCAA draws. Your best bet, then, is probably baseball.
