Even though we’re coming up on the last weekend of ACC regular season play, the Georgia Tech Baseball team will be facing off against the georgia bulldwags today at 6 p.m. ET (ACCNX). This is a huge game in the rivalry between the two schools, as Tech has a chance to sweep the season series against the dwags. The Jackets are coming off of a tough series loss to the Miami Hurricanes over the weekend where they did not perform to expectations after a big 14-3 win on Friday. A loss here would hurt potential postseason seedings, and a win would hurt the dwags’ pride. Good luck, Jackets!
It seems that the Georgia Tech Men’s Golf team is peaking at the right time with a strong first round showing at the NCAA’s Tallahassee regional site. The Jackets are currently sitting in a strong second place with a six-shot cushion over the third place team, Liberty. The top-five teams will qualify for the NCAA Tournament, which will take place at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ. Besides the team second place, Tech currently has two golfers (Christo Lamprecht and Ben Smith) tied for fifth place. Keep it up, Jackets!
Nell Fortner was hired to coach a women’s basketball program in disarray. The previous head coach was fired for many reasons, including the alleged abuse of players. Multiple top players transferred out, and the team started Fortner’s first season with extremely low expectations. To the surprise of many, Fortner brought the Jackets to a 20-11 record with a likely WNIT berth (thanks, COVID) to be found in the postseason. Fortner built upon that success with a Sweet 16 appearance in this year’s NCAA Tournament. The article above details all of the cultural changes that Fortner brought to the program, and how they’ve been extremely beneficial through the coaching transition and through COVID-19. Give it a read!
