There was a lot of activity by former Yellow Jackets on the professional golf tours. Former Tech golfer Stewart Cink turned in quite a performance at the Masters last week. His 2-under-par score of 286 was enough to earn him a tie for 12th place. That’s enough to guarantee him a trip back to Augusta next spring. Matt Kuchar and Larry Mize were also participants in this year’s Masters Tournament, but unfortunately both missed the cut after the second round. In other news, former Yellow Jacket Luke Schniederjans tied for fifth at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. As the article mentions, this was for the tour’s qualifying school event which earned him status on the MacKenzie Tour - PGA Tour Canada. With the Masters over, the golf season is in full swing and there should be plenty more news from former Yellow Jacket golfers coming soon.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s tennis team will have its match against Boston College rescheduled. It was scheduled for April 4th initially. As the article mentions, the match will not take place on Sunday, April 18 at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. Afterwards, the team will be headed to Rome, Georgia for the ACC Championship. #GoJackets
The ACC announced its 2020 All-ACC Academic Teams for cross country on Tuesday. This list featured three Yellow Jackets. Congratulations to Andrew Kent, Nicole Fegans and Liz Galarza who were named to the team.
In volleyball news, the AVCA All-Region honors for the East Coast region were also announced on Tuesday. Again, three Yellow Jackets were recognized. Congratulations to Julia Bergmann, Mariana Brambilla, and Matti McKissock, all who were recognized. The volleyball team will be in Omaha, Nebraska today for the first round of the 2020-21 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship. Their first match begins at 7 PM when they will face Lipscomb. Good luck to the volleyball team.
