Technical Tidbits 4/12: Georgia Tech Baseball takes one from Notre Dame

They lost the first two games of the series, though.

The Georgia Tech Beesball team had a rough weekend in South Bend. The Jackets dropped the first two games of their series against Notre Dame, including a blown 7-run lead on Friday. Luckily, Tech bounced back with a win to close the series yesterday afternoon; it was only the Jackets’ second win in the past seven games. Stephen Reid had a good series for the Jackets, going for five hits total, along with a game-clinching home run yesterday. Tech needs to have a good performance when the Auburn Tigers come to Atlanta on Tuesday (6 p.m. ET, ACCN). The Tigers are 12-14, so a win is crucial.

It was a tough couple of days for Tech golfers at the Masters (minus Stewart Cink), especially for U.S. Amateur champion Tyler Strafaci. It was Strafaci’s second major tournament, and he spent it playing with world no. 1 Dustin Johnson and high-ranking English golfer Lee Westwood. Although he missed the cut, I’m sure he learned a lot and is going to give it his all to be back at Augusta in 2022. On the bright side, Stewart Cink finished the tournament T12, which guarantees him a spot in next year’s Masters.

Nicole Fegans is having herself a track season. The senior runner recently broke the Georgia Tech 1500m record with a time of 4:18.95 at the Crimson Tide Invitational. According to the article above detailing her accomplishment, Fegans has recorded a personal record in all three events she’s competed in this season (including another school record as well). Other Yellow Jackets did extremely well at the event, including Olivia Moore, who won gold in the pole vault competition. Keep it up, Jackets!

You’ve got to love beating ranked teams, and conference opponents, and the Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team did that this past weekend. Even though they were down early, the team fought back, winning the match by just a point. Kenya Jones and Victoria Flores had a great day, winning their doubles match and their singles matches to give the Jackets a top-down edge. This was a big win, especially going into the ACC Championships later this month.

It was a great Sunday in Atlanta.

Question of the Day: How do you feel about the Beesball team’s recent performances?
