Technical Tidbits 3/3: Yellow Jackets defeat Blue Devils in Overtime

Tech breaks Duke’s 14-game win streak with 81-77 overtime win.

NCAA Basketball: Duke at Georgia Tech Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia Tech was favored to defeat Duke and they did just that. The final score was 81-77 after Tech won the game in OT. It was senior night so this win over Duke, whom they have never defeated before, had to have been special for seniors like Jose Alvardao and Moses Wright. Wright led all scorers with 29 and Alvardao put up 10 points. What a win for the Yellow Jackets who have pretty much made a statement that they belong in the Big Dance.

This comes as no surprise to me. On Tuesday, the National Football League extended an official invitation to Tech punter Pressley Harvin III to the 2021 NFL Scouting Combine. As the article mentions, Harvin is the first Yellow Jacket to be invited to the Combine since 2017 when Harrison Butker was an invitee. Congratulations to 2020 Ray Guy Award winner Pressley Harvin III on this well deserved recognition.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team is ranked 10th in the nation. They had an impressive road-game series against conference rival North Carolina State. In that series, the Yellow Jackets won all three games, sweeping the Wolfpack and improving to 6-1 on the season. Tech will be back in action today to start off an eight game homestand as they host the Georgia State Panthers. The opening pitch will be at 4:00 PM and the game will be available to watch on the ACC Network Extra. A few key takeaways from the article: Tech leads the series against Georgia State 68-11; Tech is ranked in the top 10 for the third time since 2016; it will be interesting to see if the Yellow Jackets can continue their offensive production, they’re already batting .302 — one of three ACC teams to be batting .300 or better.

The honors continue to roll in for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s basketball team. Nell Fortner was recently named ACC Coach of the Year. Now a couple of her players are also garnering recognition and honors as the article mentions. Congratulations to Lorela Cubaj on being named the ACC Defensive Co-Player of the Year and Lotta-Maj Lahtinen who was named the ACC Most Improved Player. #GoJackets
