One of the most high-stakes games of the season takes place for the Georgia Tech Men’s Basketball team tonight. The Jackets are traveling to Blacksburg to take on the no. 16 team in the nation, Virginia Tech. The Hokies are a great team, and a win against them would be a strong add to Tech’s NCAA Tournament resume. Tech will need to have solid play from both Jose Alvarado and Moses Wright, and not get into foul trouble early. Having to pull Wright in a crucial moment would not make it an easy way to defeat a good team. The game tips off at 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on a RSN.
Even though the basketball season is entering its final stretch and baseball is just getting started, it’s never too early to start talking about football. Tech Head Coach Geoff Collins is entering his third season at the helm of the Jackets, and while he has an established quarterback in Jeff Sims, there are two new Jacket signal callers our own Ben Tankersley took a look at. The most significant addition is Chayden Peery, from California. Peery is a high three-star recruit, and has a good throwing ability. The other is Brody Rhodes, a PWO who shows promise as a scrambler and a passer. Check them out!
The other FTRS football content from yesterday is a look at Georgia Tech’s fourth down decision making. Our Akshay Easwaran analyzed what the numbers said to do on fourth down and what Geoff Collins actually did. Akshay actually took a look at much more than what Collins did, examining the ACC and former Tech coach Paul Johnson. As you can figure out, Johnson was pretty aggressive (he was pretty good in short-yardage situations), and Collins has been a little aggressive himself. It will be interesting to see Collins’ fourth down decisions with the improved offense that he should have this fall.
The face shield has made an appearance on a talk show! That’s right, Tech Men’s Basketball Coach Josh Pastner was interviewed on the ACC Network’s “Packer and Durham” yesterday and brought his trusty PPE. Tech’s win on Saturday against Miami was brought up, and Pastner also talked about the Jackets’ chances to make the NCAA Tournament. I’d give it a watch!
Look up "beast" in any dictionary.
