The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team absolutely demolished their ACC rival the Clemson Tigers — who, at least up to last night, were considered the AP’s 20th ranked team (I imagine that will change). Three Yellow Jackets scored over twenty points in last night’s victory — this included Michael Devoe, Moses Wright, and Jordan Usher. Combining to overwhelm the Tigers, these players and the rest of the team shot 57.4% from the field and a very impressive 61.5% from three-point range. When it comes to college rivalries, it’s not easy to have a short memory, and most Tech fans probably still remember the bitter defeat the Yellow Jackets football team suffered at the hands of the Tigers this past season. This absolute [Abba] whooping the Yellow Jackets’ basketball team put on the Tigers helps make up a little bit for that loss. With the victory, Tech has now won five games in a row. They improved to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the ACC. Their next game will be a road game as they travel to face #13 UVA on January 23rd. Hopefully they can keep this hot streak going. #GoJackets
So, I’m not sure of what position he officially held at Georgia Tech, the article only mentions his role as a chaplain and a character-development coach at various points during his time on The Flats, but it’s obvious that Derrick Moore had an impact on the Yellow Jackets football team and its players. He’s been part of the team since 2002. Unfortunately, he’ll be leaving Tech as he plans to join the University of South Carolina where he’ll be the executive director of character and player development. Moore seemed to be an inspirational figure for the football team, and I imagine he’ll be missed.
The offseason is a time of recruiting and while there are additions made, sometimes players (and staff) are lost to other schools. It looks like the football team will be making a couple of key additions. On a positive note, yesterday, head coach Geoff Collins announced the arrival of linebacker Ayinde Eley and wide receiver Kyric McGowan from the transfer portal. Welcome to The Flats!
Three players finish with 20+ and @GTMBB beats No. 20 Clemson, 83-65!
