Even in a tough loss to a good UCF team, there were some bright spots for Georgia Tech. Most notably, RB Jahmyr Gibbs lived up to the massive hype in his debut, scoring two touchdowns and gaining 219 all purpose yards. For his performance, Gibbs was named ACC Rookie of the Week and was put on the Hornung Award’s Weekly Honor Roll (for the three most versatile players in the nation). While we don’t want him to see the field too much, P Pressley Harvin III punted a few times against the Knights. Luckily, all of his punts were bombs, with a 70-punt included in a 51.2 yard average. Harvin was named to the Ray Guy Award’s “Ray’s 4 List” of the top four punters for the previous week. Congratulations, Jahmyr and Pressley!
Syracuse isn’t a great football team. However, I was surprised to see Tech listed as 8-point favorites, especially as they’ll be traveling to New York for the game. The Orange’s defense is solid, but their offensive line and quarterback play up to this point has been subpar. I don’t know if the Jackets will cover, but I do see them edging the Orange in a close win.
In an announcement that took many by surprise just before the season started, Chris Martin shared that he was leaving the Georgia Tech football team. For Martin, it was a combination of not making it to the NFL, injury issues, and COVID-19 worries that led him to hang up his cleats. Martin was a solid player in his three seasons and was expected to start this year. Thank you Chris, we here at FTRS wish you all the best!
The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team is the only NCAA-sanctioned champion in Yellow Jackets history (2007). Looking to continue that legacy of success, the squad recently hired Alexis Casati as assistant coach. Casati will join the Jackets from SMU, which came after time at Western Michigan and a playing career at Illinois. Welcome to the Flats, Alexis!
Due to a penalty and a "ice the kicker timeout" @Chiefs K Harrison Butker kicked his game-winning field goal 3 times from distances of:

Let’s all just take a moment and admire this video. Beautiful.
Question of the Day: What did you think of Jahmyr Gibbs’ performance against UCF?
