After Georgia Tech’s stirring victory in the season opener against Florida State, focus has shifted to another Florida team, the USF UCF Knights. This will be the first home game on the new turf field at Bobby Dodd Stadium, and both Tech and UCF’s only non-conference game of the regular season. UCF returns a solid quarterback in Dillon Gabriel, so the Yellow Jacket defense will be up for a big test tomorrow. While FSU is a good team, I think that Tech’s performance against the Knights will truly enable us to gain a picture of what QB Jeff Sims and the rest of the team really are.
Before reading this article, I had no idea Tech C Mikey Minihan had played high school football in Hawaii and that he was Tua Tagovailoa’s center in his prep days. So, even though Minihan had not played center in college up until last Saturday, he had some solid experience. Minihan’s work with Tagovailoa could pay dividends as he helps develop Jeff Sims throughout the season.
2017 3 -star LB Jaquan Henderson has entered the portal as a grad transfer coming off his best collegiate season with 16 tackles and 2.5 TFL at #GT @rivalsmike @RivalsWoody @RivalsJohnson @Kelly_Quinlan https://t.co/W9qRwclLdw

It was announced that Jaquan Henderson had left the Georgia Tech football team in early August, however the news that he was in the transfer portal just broke yesterday. For his career at Tech, Henderson had 34 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, and a deflected pass. His best season was his last, where, arguably, his best game came against the Clemson Tigers in week one. Good luck, Jaquan!
In what has become a theme for the week, Jeff Sims has received another accolade for his performance against Florida State. This time, it is from the Allstate Sugar Bowl, which has named the Jacksonville native “Manning Award Quarterback of the Week”. The Manning Award is been given to the best quarterback in the nation, and if Sims can keep up his play (and the Jackets keep winning) he will be sure to draw some eyes at the end of the season when the award is given. Congratulations, Jeff!

Here are the captains for this week’s home opener. The “Above the Line” chart can be found here. Not many changes, a couple include true freshman Emmanuel Johnson being added to the DE group and Antonneous Clayton and Tre Swilling not present and out for the second game in a row. If you go to the game, please wear your mask and adhere to all physical distancing guidelines!
Question of the Day: What is your prediction for the UCF game?
