From 2008-2018, there was no such thing as a tight end on the Flats. In Paul Johnson’s triple option offense, the position wasn’t needed. That all changed with the arrival of Geoff Collins and a pro-style offense. Collins took in grad transfer tight end Tyler Davis from UCONN and was able to get him drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in April. In the class of 2019, Collins took Dylan Deveney and before the season began had Tyler Cooksey make the switch from linebacker to tight end. Walk-on Dylan Leonard also got some playing time at the position.
After signing Billy Ward in the 2020 class, Collins & co. made a move to bolster depth at the position next season with the commitment of Ben Postma. Postma is a three-star tight end out of Cypress, TX, rated at no. 50 for his position in the class of 2021. Besides Tech, Postma held offers from many schools including Arkansas, Illinois, and Pittsburgh.
Postma has the unteachable attribute of size, standing at 6’ 5” and weighing 220 pounds. However, on his film he looks a little slow, so hopefully there will be some more development over the summer and during his senior season.
