James Blackstrain becomes the eighth commitment for the 2021 class and the fourth in five days. He also becomes the third receiver commit of the class. Hailing from Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Melbourne, FL he lists at 6’2” 175lbs with a 4-star rating from 247 Composite. It also lists him as the 279th overall player in the nation and 50th overall receiver. Blackstrain didn’t lack for offers either with 36 as of today including regional powers Georgia, FSU, Florida, and LSU.
James appears not to have played his junior season as film or stats were not listed but what is available shows why he retained a 4-star rating. His sophomore footage shows he is capable of blowing past defenders with good acceleration and using his height to high point the ball. Several balls were tipped that he reeled in with soft hands as well. His route running is developed for a player with only two years of experience that an extra year will surely enhance.
Tech is starting to build a deep receiver pool and position coach Kerry Dixon should be credited on his recruiting efforts.
