Shawn Chappell becomes the fourth member of the 2021 recruiting class hailing from deep inside Duke’s territory at Southern Durham High School.

He lists at 6’2” 185 lbs. Rivals gives Chappell a 2-star cornerback rating while 247 lists him as a 3-star safety. The current lower ranking may be due to no camps and limited scouting. Offers lists can also impact rating which currently lists Arizona State, App State, Syracuse, Liberty, and Campbell.

When taking a look at Shawn’s junior highlights it shows he played both corner and safety which Collins values versatile players. His frame and physicality in tackling ball carriers leans him more to playing safety. Reading the quarterback in the zone and jamming receivers in press coverage both appear to be strong points of his game. One thing that could improve is developing some more speed as he was chased down a few times after intercepting a pass. The angles Shawn takes to make tackles are solid and could make up against faster offensive players.
