Ladies, gentlemen, and children of all ages — welcome to the first annual (ok well, probably not annual) From the Rumble Seat Champions League! In keeping with the highest traditions of FTRS [Styx]posts and totally not in any way, shape, or form to fill a massive sports-less content void, we have assembled a crack team of FIFA 20 players to determine who shall wear the crown of FTRS FIFA Champion and earn the prestigious FTRS Ramblin’ Reck Cup.
(...what’s that? We have no trophy to give out?)
Breaking news: The champion will earn prestigious bragging rights over their competitors — huzzah!
Said holy champion-crowning tournament shall be laid out as follows:
- Eight-minute halves in each match — we’re all old.
- No handballs — because VAR shall victimize us no longer.
- Each match will feature randomized teams in the three- to five-star range, as determined by FIFA Match Creator.
- Each player will play every other twice, making for a total of six matches.
- For each match, players will get three points for a win, one for a tie, and zero for a loss.
- Whoever collects the most points from the six-matches series will win the whole dang thing. As is soccer tradition, if two players are tied at the end of all six matches, the first tiebreaker will be
a duel to the deathgoal difference.
And maybe we’ll do some playoffs at the end, just for fun — who knows?
Without further ado, your starting XI III for the FTRS Champions League and how they’re feeling about the upcoming competition:
Akshay: “You know, I’m just out here trying to COMPETE. I’m really excited to see what I can do with my team and really get out there and put our BRAND on everything we do. Really proud of the work I’ve been able to do in the off-season; really feel like I’ve prepared well for this, so looking forward to ELEVATE my game and really put forth EFFORT.”
Stephen:“Ya know, my middle school assistant soccer coach really only ever gave us one speech. Whether it was before our after the game, the speech remained the same. ‘The only things you can control about this game are your ATTITUDE and EFFORT. ATTITUDE and EFFORT.’ Said about 3 more times for emphasis. That’s all I’m going to be able to do for this tournament in my mind. Random draw of teams really puts me at a disadvantage not knowing how the lads play and what their strengths are, but like I said before. Attitude and Effort. We’re going to play a counterattacking style regardless of the speed on the field, and our DISCIPLINED defending and RELENTLESS pace will see us cruise to a victory.
Jeff: “This is really a top to bottom change in the style of football being played. You would even say they aren’t even the same sport. So what I am looking for is to learn the new positions, schemes, and general rules of the game. Each chance to compete is a chance to improve play to an ELITE level in which I know I can perform at down the road. This isn’t so much about winning right now as it is not looking bad against the FCS English Football League Two teams.”
We’ll have all the highlights and coverage of the FTRS Champions League right here on FTRS as the tournament gets underway this weekend. Stay tuned!
