This was a refreshing win for the Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team. They defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies last night 76-57. It was a dominant win where the Yellow Jackets shot 52.7% from the field and played strongly on both defense and offense. With the win, the Yellow Jackets are now within a game of .500 overall on the season. There’s just eight games remaining in the regular season, so they’ll need a strong finish. Hopefully they can do just that. Their next game will be on the road to face off against Pittsburgh. Tip-off is set for Saturday at 2:00 PM..
After back surgery, Georgia Tech football player Hamp Gibbs has decided to “step away” from football according to this article. Gibbs was a walk on who played high school football at Augusta Prep. He made the announcement on social media yesterday. The article mentions that Gibbs plans to stay with the team as an assistant coach.
In more football news, head coach Geoff Collins and his staff are hoping four-star running back Jahmyr Gibbs follows through on his commitment to Tech despite interest from schools such as Alabama, Florida and Ohio State, as the article mentions. He’ll announce who he’s signing with today. Hopefully we’ll be seeing him on the Flats!
As the article mentions, an old Tech softball tradition is returning this season. It’s called the Buzz Classic and it’s a five-team, round-robin style tournament. It starts this Thursday. Tech will face off against the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Good luck to the softball team as they get their season started this Thursday!
This was pretty exciting news for an old-timer like myself. Georgia Tech will be hosting Guns N’ Roses at Bobby Dodd Stadium for an August concert. That should be an exciting way to help get the 2020 season started off. Tickets go on sale this Friday. For those of you who are GNR fans, what is your favorite song?
