Technical Tidbits 2/21: Josh Pastner Details Georgia Tech’s Defense

Cards really help.

NCAA Basketball: Georgia Tech at Wake Forest Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

During Georgia Tech Basketball games, Head Coach Josh Pastner is often seen waving laminated cards around. According to this article by the AJC, Pastner does it as a way to get defensive schemes to his players with the least bit of confusion as possible. It gets very loud during ACC basketball games, and so this is a smart idea to keep Tech focused and aware of what’s happening on defense. The defense is statistically very good (and has always been) under Pastner, but it hasn’t translated into consistent wins yet. Hopefully, Tech can win its third ACC game in a row tomorrow at Syracuse, it would be a great way to continue a winning streak and improve the Jackets’ chances of postseason play.

This was a very interesting article. It details former Tech and NFL CB Lou Young and his transition from football to impressions. I had no idea that Young was gaining fame as an online comedian, but after watching some of his work, it is clear that he is very good at what he does. Young has even signed with a talent agency, and is looking to work with Georgia Tech on impressions and other social media content. Give him a follow!

The Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball team unfortunately lost their game to no. 5 Louisville Thursday evening. For the Jackets, Nerea Hermosa and Lotta-Maj Lahtinen each had 11 points, while Kierra Fletcher led the team in rebounds with six. Louisville’s Jazmine Jones paced the Cardinals in scoring with 18 points. The Jackets will return to action Sunday in Atlanta for the Play4Kay game against no. 17 Florida State. The game will tip-off at 4 p.m. and will be televised on the ACC Network.

After beating Georgia Southern on Tuesday night, the Georgia Tech Baseball team will welcome Ohio State to the Flats this weekend. Games will be on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and first pitch will be at 4, 2, and 1 p.m. respectively. Each game will be televised on ACCNX, and on Friday the first 150 students will receive a free adidas t-shirt upon entry. Go, Jackets!

The Georgia Tech Softball team has not had the best start to the season, as they are currently sitting at 3-5. This weekend, Tech will play five games, including two against no. 13 Kentucky in Birmingham, Alabama. One bright spot for Tech so far this year is the play of freshman C Emma Kauf, who is currently hitting .370 with five RBIs and five stolen bases. Kauf came into Tech as a highly-touted prospect (she was Nebraska’s 2019 Gatorade Softball Player of the Year) and will be a key to future Georgia Tech success.

Question of the Day: Do you think the Tech basketball team could make the NCAA Tournament or NIT?
