This edition of Tech Talks with Andy Demetra featured Rodney Howard. Howard will be in his first season at Tech since transferring from UGA (smart move). Though he is a native of Michigan, Howard went to high school in Alpharetta, which probably played a role in him getting immediate eligibility upon transferring (assuming his family is still in the area). The Tech Talks series is a great way to get to know some of the newer Yellow Jackets. From the interview, it seems Howard should be a physical player who will help strengthen the team. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how he contributes to the team this season.

If there’s one thing better than having a top 25 ranked recruiting class it would have to be seeing that same class ranked higher when the classes are re-ranked as was the case with Tech’s 2020 recruiting class. The jump was significant as this class was ranked 8th by Bleacher Report after being ranked 25th (by Rivals) before the season. Two big factors in this have been the outstanding freshman seasons of quarterback Jeff Simms and running back Jahmyr Gibbs. As the article mentions, the Yellow Jackets had a bye week last week but will be back in action when they host Pittsburgh this coming weekend.

The Yellow Jackets swim team opened its season over the weekend. Both the women’s and men’s team faced Florida State. While the women’s team won their match 176-124, the men’s team narrowly lost 152-147. As the article mentions, some of highlights included strong performances by Rei Kuramoto from the women’s team and Josh Cohen from the men’s team. The team’s next match will come on November 18-20 in the UGA Invite against none other than UGA. Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate will be their last meet of the 2020 season.

This was a fun power ranking to read. Rather than boring numerical values, teams were categorized by descriptions. How did Tech fare? Well, they are among teams that can be considered the “butt of the joke” in the ACC. At least they avoided being considered the “worst of the worst” like Duke and Syracuse were. While Tech did lose to Syracuse they have a chance to redeem themselves against Duke on November 28th.
