Its official! Pastner and company land 6’6 forward, Jalon Moore, out of Gardendale, Alabama. Moore has seen his stock explode this summer and fall, going from virtually unknown to a member of the Rivals150.
The Jackets jumped into the Jalon sweepstakes in September after a strong performance in a Labor Day tournament outside of Atlanta. Moore showed strong interest in coming to Atlanta ever since and spurned both Georgia and Mississippi St when he committed to Georgia Tech on Thursday.
Player Breakdown:
Moore is a versatile forward who is known for his athleticism and ability to get to the rack. Jalon has an uncanny ability to get to the basket and finish whether it is off the dribble or with his back to the basket. The bouncy wing also excels at using his size and athleticism to crash the glass. Moore’s high motor will allow him to become an impact player on both ends and fit right into Pastner’s suffocating defense. While not one of his top qualities, Jalon has shown the ability to shoot the 3. Development should be key here as he can become a multi-year impact player for the Jackets if he puts it all together.
The Final Word:
This is a great addition to the 2021 class and gives the Jackets 3 top 150 players before the early signing period. It was especially important to secure his commitment prior to the start the high school season. Moore would likely have picked up a bevy of Power 5 offers in the winter, potentially resulting in a high profile drawn out recruitment. Moore was able to see his stock soar despite limited exposure and has the chance to push for the top 100 in the final recruiting rankings. Look for the Jackets to save what will likely be their final scholarship for the 2021 class for a high impact big man via the transfer portal.
