Trenilyas Tatum was recruited heavily by the Yellow Jackets both before and after he made a hard commitment to the Gamecocks of South Carolina. With the uncertainty now looming from the mid-season firing of Head Coach Will Muschamp, it was possible for there to be some attrition among the recruiting class. Tech’s relentless pursuit of Tatum after committing paid off as they now have a promising young linebacker that is sorely needed. Tatum hails from Mt. Zion Highschool in Jonesboro, GA. He is listed at 6’2” 208lbs and is a 4-star OLB by the 247 composite rankings and comes in at 348th nationally and 29th in the state of Georgia.

What should make you excited about Tatum when you watch his highlight film is his ability to time the snap and get into the backfield with minimal hindrance from blocks. He shows great vision tracking down the ball carrier and seems to have a good understanding of which gaps to cover for each play. All the physical talent in the world, which Tatum is no slouch, can’t overcome bad reads. Tatum seems readily equipped to make an impact when he arrives in the linebacker group that has been one of the thinner areas on the team in terms of depth. Look for this guy to create some havoc in the backfield in the coming years.
