There were several reasons for the Yellow Jackets disappointing loss to the Boston College Eagles this past weekend, but if you could narrow it down to two words then turnovers and penalties would probably suffice. This article does a good job of breaking down just how badly mistakes ended up costing the team. All three of the Yellow Jackets’ turnovers led to scoring drives by the Eagles. And the 10 penalties committed by the Yellow Jackets cost them dearly, including a touchdown from a kick return by Jahmyr Gibbs. It seems like this team alternates between playing a clean game and a sloppy one. They’re the Jekyll and Hyde of college football, you don’t know which team will show up. Hopefully, head coach Geoff Collins and his coaching staff will (again) refocus the team and get them to play smarter. It won’t be any easier for them as next week they will be hosting the 4th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
After Boston College’s thumping Tech, Eagles head coach Jeff Hafley spoke about his team and what he thought led to their success against the Yellow Jackets. Agreeably, the defense was a big factor in the Eagles win. The Yellow Jackets had trouble offensively, particularly in the first half. Also, credit is owed to the Eagles offense, and for the Yellow Jackets, there has to be some improvements made on the defensive side of the ball. Their performance against the run game in particular was disappointing after giving up well over 200 rushing yards to the Eagles. Hopefully head coach Geoff Collins, defensive coordinator Andrew Thacker and the rest of the Tech coaches can address the issues or next week’s matchup against Notre Dame could turn out to be another embarrassment for the team.
In more positive news, the Yellow Jackets’ volleyball team defeated Clemson in both of its matches that took place on Thursday and Friday of last week. As the article mentions, with the victories, the team finished 7-1 for the fall season and is guaranteed at least a tie for first-place in the ACC. Congratulations to the volleyball team!
