FTRS is looking to add a few new people!

Hello everyone! We’ve got some changes coming, and we’re going to need some help getting there. We’ll be hiring for a number of positions, with the descriptions below. If you’re interested, please be sure to fill out the Google form linked below or send an email to fromtherumbleseat@gmail.com explaining why you think you would be a good fit for the position.

Before I post the positions, I do want to be up front about something. As some of you may know, the state of California recently passed a state law limiting the amount of content that can be produced by an independent contractor, which is what each of us are technically classified as. Some of these positions either offer a stipend or have the potential to add a stipend down the road. SB Nation is dealing with this by electing not to offer a stipend to any individual residing in California. Because of all this, I will be giving preference to individuals not residing in California. I hate that it has to be this way, but it is out of my hands.

Now that all that is out of the way, let’s get to the new positions!

Social Media Manager

First up is our Social Media Manager position! This position will be in charge of the FTRS official Facebook and Twitter page and is absolutely vital in helping grow the site and its brand. Something else I would also consider for this position is if you are looking to fulfill some kind of journalism or sports media capstone, I would be happy to sign off on any paperwork, and we can figure out the finer details later.

Football Staff Writer

The main sport we cover here is football, and it’s also the section that was influenced the most by the passing of that new California law, so we are looking to add probably a couple writers here. For this position, I would prefer to add someone with some experience in breaking down film or that has a solid understanding of advanced stats and can integrate that into their writing, though I won’t require it.

Recruiting Staff Writer

Recruiting is something that I’m wanting to put more of a focus on moving forward, so I want to add some staff here to focus solely on this. I’m still trying to figure out what some of the finer details of what this position will entail, so right now, I just want to have staff in place so we can go ahead and get the ball rolling on this.

The Perks!

So you may be wondering why you would want to come write for FTRS, well, I can tell you that there are some pretty great perks that come along with the gig!

  • You get to join the FTRS Slack Channel! Since we started this Slack channel, the FTRS staff has become a much more tight-knit group, so we have all sorts of great conversation, whether it be about video games, other sports, or pretty much anything else. It’s great, and I know the other staff members will definitely agree with me on that one!
  • I did mention the possibility of a stipend. I can’t promise that you will absolutely get a stipend at some point. I’m given a budget by my managers and divvy it up the best way I can, but I will say that the better the site does, the more money I’m allotted to pay for staff.
  • If journalism or writing about sports in general is something you want to get into at some point in your life, this is a good opportunity to get your feet wet with some of this stuff. I’ve got a degree in Journalism and would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about that kind of stuff.

How can I apply?

Well, I’m glad you asked! If you’re interested in applying, there are two ways to do that. The first is to fill out this Google form. It’s probably the easiest way, but if you’d rather, you can also send an email to fromtherumbleseat@gmail.com explaining why you think you would be a good fit for the position. Please be sure to include what position or positions you are interested in.

Best of luck to the applicants!
