Three members of Georgia Tech’s football team were named to the ACC All-Academic team. These players included linebacker David Curry, offensive lineman Jared Southers, and cornerback Tre Swilling. The requirements to be named to the team include maintaining a 3.0 GPA for the most recent semester and a 3.0 for the academic year; performance on the field also factors in. It’s no small feat to earn this accomplishment at a school like Tech. So congratulations to Curry, Southers, and Swilling.
Former Yellow Jackets basketball player and current NBA player Derrick Favors was on quite a streak not too long ago. Playing for the New Orleans Pelicans, Favors streak was enough so that he was able to steal some of the spotlight from Pelicans star rookie Zion Williamson. The was one interesting story from this article that highlighted current pro Yellow Jackets.
With the 2020 regular signing period not far away, it’s no surprise that some of the focus has shifted to the 2021 recruiting class. The article discusses Tech’s progress on that front. Here are a few of the key points that I found interesting from the article:
- It’s January and Tech already has two commitments — their first of the 2020 class didn’t come until March
- Tech has the second most scholarship offers in the ACC behind only Louisville
- Offensive and defensive linemen have been the priority
Another interesting point mentioned in the article is four-star recruit Jayson Jones who has recently warmed up to Tech. What a way to finish off the 2020 recruitment season it would be to add another four star recruit. Let’s see what happens.
The Yellow Jackets women’s basketball team lost in overtime to Miami. The final score was 54-49. After losing their fourth game in a row, the Yellow Jackets have now dropped to 14-7 overall and 5-5 in the ACC. Their next game will be against Notre Dame on the road. Hopefully they can get back on track in South Bend.
