Technical Tidbits 9/6: Positional Flexibility

Jahaziel Lee taking snaps with both the offense and defense; Yellow Jackets volleyball team gets 700th win; predictions for Saturday’s game

To take snaps as both a defensive lineman and an offensive lineman must take a warrior mentality. Jahaziel Lee did just that in last week’s Clemson game. He played a total of 20 snaps on offense and 16 on defense. Lee, who was originally a defensive lineman in high school, moved to the offensive line when he came to Tech and eventually earned a starting role as left tackle.

Head Coach Geoff Collins has a fondness for allowing players to have flexibility in the positions they play. So, it’s not uncommon nor will it be to see some players playing both defense and offense. When the opportunity came along, Lee took it. I’m sure the senior lineman has gained a lot of insight playing on the offensive line and will use that to his advantage as a defensive lineman (and vice versa). He’ll definitely be a player to keep an eye on this season.

It seems there’ll be an initiative to increase student engagement. Of course, for anyone who has been to Bobby Dodd Stadium on gameday, you’d know how important the student section can be to boosting the team’s morale and confidence (really for any college team, for that matter). For Saturday’s home opener against South Florida there’ll be a tank top giveaway for the first 1,500 students with a valid Buzz Card. I like the idea of the Whiteout Tank Top Giveaway, unfortunately, my Buzz Card is far from being valid. Students, make sure you get to the stadium early enough so you don’t miss out.

That was a very impressive win over Lipscomb for the Yellow Jackets volleyball team last night. It turned out to be Tech’s 700th Division I win. That is quite impressive. Congratulations to the volleyball team!

It’s prediction time. The AJC has Tech defeating USF and covering the spread. They don’t seem to have as much faith in the Falcons. Well, let’s hope they’re at least half-right.

This article has Tech winning 20-13 over USF. Both teams took a thumping in their week one openers; granted they both faced tough teams. What’s your prediction for tomorrow’s game?
