Technical Tidbits 7/25: Tech Commits’ Inspiring Story

Tech commit Michael Rankins’ path to Georgia Tech.

NCAA Football: Georgia Tech at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Michael Rankins’ story is the kind you like to read about. Rankins is a three-star recruit that committed to Tech on July 1st and is part of the 2020 recruiting class. The 6’5”, 285-pound offensive lineman is a hard-worker, both on and off the field.

Speaking of Rankins, his coach Matt Kitchie said, “He wants to be an engineer, and where in the world would you rather go than Georgia Tech?” Rankins is said to possess a strong work-ethic and is very coachable. With that combination, he should be a helluva engineer and a helluva football player.

The results of toxicology tests by the GBI on behalf of the Atlanta police department have indicated that no foul play or drugs were involved in the death of Georgia Tech football player Brandon Adams. With these test results the Atlanta police department will consider the case closed. It’s been just over four months since the tragic and untimely passing of Adams.

Six Georgia Tech alumni joined forces to swim the 2019 Tahoe Relay. The team featured former Yellow Jacket swimmers Megan Campbell (2005-08), Liz Foster (2003-06), Agatha Kwasnik (2007-10), Jing Li (2007-10), Vesna Stojanovska (2004-07), and Elizabeth Stowe (2005-08).

The former Yellow Jackets finished 2nd in their age group. That’s not bad considering it was a 10-mile race that featured 200 teams consisting of nearly 1,200 competitors. Oh, and that Lake Tahoe water is frigid. Even in the summertime. Swimming a 10-mile relay and coming in second is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations to these former Yellow Jackets.

At least one betting site has released their odds for the fast-approaching Georgia Tech-Clemson game. Needless to say, Tech will be the underdogs. But looking at the odds, if Tech were to pull off an upset, that would be quite a nice payout. Anyone interested in pooling some cash together and betting on the Yellow Jackets?

Caption that Tweet

By now, I’m sure many of you have already seen this Tweet. What were your first impressions? Let’s have some fun and try to caption it with whatever comes to mind (please keep it PG-13). The first thing that came to my mind was one of my favorite movies of all time — see dialogue below for a hint :)

“Private Pyle has dishonored himself and dishonored the platoon. I have tried to help him, but I have failed. I have failed because you have not helped me. You people have not given Private Pyle the proper motivation.”

Oh, and have a great weekend Yellow Jacket fans!
