For the 17th time in 20 years, the Yellow Jackets golf team finishes in the top 10.

In golf news, the Yellow Jackets’ men’s golf team finished the 2018-19 season ranked No. 7 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Index. They finished No. 12 in the Golfstat rankings. Since the national rankings were established, Georgia Tech has consistently finished in the top 10 in at least one of these rankings. This is the 17th time in 20 years. That’s pretty impressive.

In some more golfing news, Georgia Tech’s own Ben Smith is the No. 1 seed at the Michigan Amateur. On Wednesday, Smith shot an impressive 5-under 65 in the 108th Michigan Amateur Championship to earn the top seed.

The Yellow Jackets’ women’s basketball team picked up a key signing. Sarah Bates, a redshirt-sophomore from Fresno, Ca., has signed a grant-in-aid for the upcoming season. The announcement of the signing was made by head coach Nell Fortner.

Bates played for U.C. Santa Barbara her freshman season (2017-2018). By NCAA rule, she was required to sit out her sophomore season after she transferred to Kansas State. At Tech, she will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

In her freshman year at U.C. Santa Barbara, Bates shot 41.2 percent from three-point range. Her 61 of 148 attempts was enough to make her the fourth ranked three-point shooter in the Big West conference.

She will be a key addition partly because of her threat as a three-point shooter. “She will be a tremendous three-point shooting threat for us, which is something that we need here at Georgia Tech,” said Fortner. This is a great signing for the Yellow Jackets. Welcome to The Flats.

Just a few weeks ago, Georgia Tech athletics announced the Golden Ticket Sweepstakes. Well, the first winner of the Golden Ticket Sweepstakes has been announced. Chelsea O. is the first winner. Congratulations!

For her prize, Chelsea opted for the meal with Coach Collins — I’m guessing it’s at the Waffle House, right? Yellow Jacket fans, of the remaining prizes, which would you choose if you were the next winner? (More info about the prizes here).
