Yellow Jacket Roundup: O-H-N-O

Tech has a knack for getting the best of the Buckeyes.

Softball lets a trio roll right on by in South Bend.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - Neither the softball nor the women’s tennis athletes got to be on campus for this weekend’s commencement. And while men’s tennis got robbed of a spot to compete for the team title in this spring’s NCAAs, and thus weren’t playing, they’ve inked two premier talents for next year. But meanwhile, as for the athletes who were in action:

Women’s Tennis

Tech took the first match of the weekend from the Ohio State Buckeyes in their NCAA Regional. Though they dropped the doubles point and the first singles match, Nami Otsuka put the nail in the coffin of their top-25 opponent on the way to the upset win. However, the Vanderbilt Commodores once again had Tech’s number, and, for the second year in a row, knocked them out of contention in the NCAA Tournament, this year with a much more one-sided 4-0 sweep.

This week: Tech is done for the year after the loss.

Softball

It was an unfortunate trip to South Bend for the Yellow Jacket, who got swept in the three game series. The first two games were not too close, losing 16-0 in five innings and 7-0 in the standard seven, with little to say about the pitching or hitting in either. The last game gave Tech a glimmer of hope, as they only fell 6-4. They managed four runs, and only trailed 3-1 after the fourth thanks to a Cameron Stanford home run. They would allow a few more runs before an attempted comeback fell just short, and with it, that’s all she wrote.

This week: Tech secured the no. 7 seed in the ACC conference tournament in Tallahassee.
