First of all, allow me to introduce myself. My name is C.K. Mura and I’m a writer and sports journalist based out of Atlanta. I’ll be writing your Technical Tidbits for you on Tuesdays and Thursdays going forward. As a graduate of Georgia Tech and an Atlanta resident, I love to follow the Yellow Jackets and other Atlanta-based professional teams. I’m very excited to be joining the FTRS team and bringing to you all kinds of Yellow Jackets sporting news.
The Yellow Jackets’ baseball team bounced back after a disappointing loss in the ACC Championship Game. They were awarded the #3 national seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament. 2010 was the last time Tech had been named a national seed and a Super Regional host.
The Atlanta Regional will begin on May 31. That Friday the Yellow Jackets face off against fourth-seeded Florida A&M. Meanwhile, the second-seeded Auburn Tigers will play third-seeded Coastal Carolina. Will the Yellow Jackets advance to the next round? Find out this Friday as the Yellow Jackets continue their postseason swarm.
Golf, like most sports, is certainly a game that requires consistency. After years of absence from the golf course (or driving range for that matter), I was reminded of that reality this Memorial Day weekend by an impromptu trip to the links. It wasn’t pretty.
After a three-year absence, Georgia Tech qualified for this year’s NCAA Men’s Division I Golf Championship. Only one Yellow Jacket golfer was able to post a round of par or better. As a result, Tech missed the 54-hole cut. Despite the poor showing, it’s encouraging that the team made it back to the tournament. Hats off to them.
You don’t need a sweet tooth to partake in these sweepstakes. You don’t need a gold tooth either, for that matter, though it might help.
Last week, Georgia Tech athletics announced its Golden Ticket Sweepstakes. Winners will be selected from season ticket members and Stinger Mobile Pass holders. There are five prizes that range from a meal with head coach Geoff Collins to the Ultimate Gameday Experience, which includes among other benefits, according to the site, the opportunity to “[lead] the team down Yellow Jacket Alley.” If Coach Collins is the Willy Wonka of this sweepstakes, I’m guessing this makes Bobby Dodd Stadium the Chocolate Factory? Or perhaps, the Win Factory? Let’s hope so.
Finally, before wrapping things up for today, I’d like to share Georgia Tech Baseball’s video Tweet of the moment the Yellow Jackets got selected. Enjoy!
